With speculation swirling about the future of Rangers’ backup goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, Robby McCrorie could hardly have picked a better time to produce arguably the finest performance of his career.

Foderingham was The Gers’ undisputed number one until Steven Gerrard arrived at Ibrox in 2018 and brought Allan McGregor with him. These days, the former Swindon Town stopper is stuck on the bench and doubts remain about his long-term future with the 28-year-old’s contract set to expire next summer.

DC United are interested, according to the Mail, and a fresh start in the MLS will surely appeal to a man who has played just 11 games in the last 13 months.

But could Rangers already have a replacement in their ranks? At the age of 21, McCrorie is starting to establish himself at senior level with a loan move to Queen of the South proving to be the making of the Scotland U21 international. No wonder he was named the Man of the Match. McCrorie is yet to make his first-team debut for Rangers but, with Foderingham set to become a free agent next year, there could be a space in Gerrard’s squad for him very soon.
