Greg Docherty has been heavily tipped to leave Glasgow Rangers on loan with clubs in League One reportedly keen.
Although a move to Sunderland looks unlikely after Luke O’Nien completed his move to the Stadium of Light from Wycombe Wanderers, it looks like Greg Docherty is still likely to be playing his football in League One next season.
The Sun (29 July, page 63) is reporting that Shrewsbury Town are interested in signing the Rangers midfielder on loan. This is despite the fact that he only arrived at Ibrox in January, joining from Hamilton for £650,000 after a protracted transfer saga.
The 22-year-old has barely featured since Steven Gerrard took over, however, failing to make an appearance in any of Rangers’ three Europa League qualifiers so far. And his latest display, in the 3-0 pre-season win against Wigan, perhaps explains why he finds himself so far down the pecking order.
Docherty stood out for all the wrong reasons despite an impressive win for his side against Championship opposition, looking bereft of confidence and giving the ball away on countless occasions. Many Rangers supporters were far from impressed.
