Allen signing recommends Rangers to 7-figure Gerrard target, despite his own Ibrox struggles (Via HITC)

Goldson could replace the former Rangers loanee at Ibrox next season, after Steven Gerrard reportedly developed an interest.

Russell Martin has told the Argus that he would recommend joining Rangers to any player, despite his own difficult Ibrox spell.

Martin has returned to Norwich City after spending five months on loan with Rangers - a period he admitted was 'a bit wrong place, wrong time'.

But the Scotland international believes the Ibrox ship is slowly being steadied and suggested that Rangers would be a good move for Connor Goldson, the Brighton and Hove Albion defender who is being tipped to replace him in Glasgow.

Discussing his time north of the border, Martin, a lifelong Brighton fan, said: "I don’t think anything can prepare you for it. It’s huge. You’ve got an idea but it’s only when you go up there that you realise how big it is. Just walking around the streets, it’s a giant of a football club with a great fanbase.

"For me it was a bit wrong place, wrong time. The club was a bit all over the place and then a change of manager, who was an interim manager anyway (Graeme Murty). But I loved playing for a football club of that size and that support."

Giving Goldson a glimpse of what life would be like should his proposed £3 million transfer to Steven Gerrard's side materialise, Martin added: "Every team, especially playing for Rangers or Celtic, it’s a cup final every game, teams are desperate to beat you so you have to cope with that pressure and expectancy.
