Rangers and the missing Midfield

We know all season us fans have been moaning about the state of our defence, and to be honest, it is in some state.

Watching the game against Patrick last weekend, it became clearer than ever. Rangers, this season, have been missing MIDFIELD.

The reason I bring this up is because when you look at the two recent Old Firm games and the way we were bossed at Fir Hill for large chunks, you see how desperate our plight currently is.

Here are FOUR THINGS that I have noticed over the past three games and the things that need to change ASAP:

1. The missing Battler

Like I said above, we are missing that commander in midfield, that general who is not scared of tackles. If you watched Scott Brown at Ibrox in the last Old Firm, we have missed a Kevin Thomson or a Souness who would hound the opposition off the ball. See down below of what I mean:

2. That wild card

In years gone by we have had youngsters like Jamie Ness, John Fleck, Gregg Wylde and the most recent Barrie Mckay. These kids have sometimes been the difference in games and even though they might have not went on too greener pastures, at the time they done the job.

Sometimes having that youngster in and around the first team helps and hopefully with teenagers like Barjonas coming into the midfield, we might just be witnessing this.

3. The holding Defensive Midfielder

Now the last time I witnessed such a midfielder who carried out these duties was in the Semi Final LAST YEAR. That man was Dom Ball and since then, at least to me, we have not had that guard in front of the back four.

During that game the young England defender was in fine form and he not only helped the midfield but also linked the attack into play as well. Andy Halliday in recent months has tried his hand at this role and to be frank, he is not good enough.

4. The playmaker

We are lucky enough as fans to be have seen some terrific talents of the past few decades, names such as Laudrup, Ferguson and Davis all come to mind, well for me anyway.

Unfortunately we have not had one of those for, well since admin to be honest, and it would not be before time to get someone through the door. Will Rangers ever get that calibre of player again? I mean I am not asking for a Laudrup, even a Pedro Mendes type player would do!

Are we asking for too much as fans? Should we be more patient? Have your say!
