Rangers have been hit with a notice of complaint from the Scottish FA following controversial comments made by former player John Brown on the club’s in-house media channel, RangersTV.
The incident stems from a broadcast in which Brown appeared to accuse the Scottish football authorities of corruption. During a passionate segment, Brown claimed decisions made by governing bodies had been prejudiced against the Ibrox side, questioning the integrity of the SFA and SPFL.
The governing body has taken a dim view of the remarks and has charged the club with a breach of disciplinary rules, citing the broadcast and Rangers’ responsibility for the content aired on their official platform.
Brown, a former Rangers defender known for his uncompromising style both on and off the pitch, is understood to have made the remarks in a pre-recorded segment. Though not a club employee, his comments were made on an official Rangers media outlet, which the SFA considers within its jurisdiction.
The notice of complaint alleges a breach of Rule 73, which prohibits clubs and individuals from making public statements that imply bias or question the integrity of match officials or football authorities without evidence.
Rangers have until the stated deadline to respond, and a disciplinary hearing is expected to follow in due course. The club has not yet issued an official statement regarding the charge.
This incident is likely to reignite ongoing tensions between Rangers and the SFA, with previous disputes still fresh in the minds of many supporters.
The outcome of the hearing could have implications not only for the club but also for how all clubs manage the content and commentary broadcast through their internal media channels.
